Energy
The United
States needs an
energy strategy
that works for
American
families - and
puts American
families to work.
Instead of
maintaining our
dependence on
expensive
foreign oil and
dirty fossil
fuels, America
needs policies
that stand up to
powerful
interests and
build the clean
energy economy
of the future.
Clean, renewable
power sources –
like wind,
solar,
geothermal,
tidal, and biofuels –
should be at the
heart of a new
energy policy.
These renewable
sources don’t
pollute the
environment, can
be produced
right here at
home and will
create good
paying jobs.
Economy
In these
difficult
economic times,
more and more
American
families are
struggling to
make ends meet.
America’s
leaders must
recognize that
working families
are the engine
that drives our
economy, not
powerful special
interests.
To build the
foundation for a
sustained
economic
recovery,
policymakers
must address the
underlying
problems which
caused the
economic crisis
in the first
place. The
United States
needs to return
to an era for
fiscal
responsibility
and make strong
investments in
our future.
Above all, we
need policies
that lift up
workers and
create jobs. To
fix our
crumbling
infrastructure,
the U.S. must
embark on an
unprecedented
building
campaign to
repair or build
new roads,
bridges,
hospitals,
schools, and
fire stations.
Job training
programs should
be expanded to
help displaced
workers
transition to
the careers of
the future.
Student aid must
be increased to
ensure that
every student
can get the
college
education they
need to succeed
our global
economy.
Health Care
Too many
American
families
struggle with
the cost of
health care - or
go without
insurance all
together.
Comprehensive
health care
reform that will
extend coverage
to those who
lack it, improve
coverage for
those who have
insurance, and
reduce costs for
everyone is a
good first step.
Health care
should work for
everyone, not
just big special
interests.
Seniors
Seniors deserve
the comfort and
security of
knowing they’ll
have a
guaranteed
income.
Social Security
and Medicare
represent an
intergenerational
trust and a
commitment to
our senior
citizens. The
programs are a
promise to our
seniors that if
they work hard
and play fair,
they can retire
with dignity. As
policymakers
address these
issues, they
must ensure any
reform proposals
honor that trust
and meets that
commitment.
In reforming
Social Security,
Congress should
reject any
proposal that
puts benefits at
risk by
privatizing the
system. Seniors
deserve the
security of
knowing they’ll
have a
guaranteed
income, not the
fear that they
might lose
everything to
fluctuations in
the stock
market.
Healthcare
reform proposals
must protect and
improve Medicare
for all seniors.
We need policies
that root out
fraud and abuse
in the program
and end wasteful
subsidies to
large special
interests.
